Problem:  When you launch a program it seems to take forever to open.

Solution:  There are many things that can slow your system down, but you can speed things up by following a few simple steps. Upgrading you RAM will show an immediate boost in speed. Windows XP can run on 512MB of RAM but it will run a lot better with 1GB or more of RAM. Windows Vista needs 2GB to really spread it's wings and fly! Another speed booster is to disable some of the resource hogging extras like Aero Glass and Flip3D in Vista. To disable these, right-click anywhere on the Desktop and click Personalize. Next click on Windows Color and Appearance. Open Classic appearance properties and set the color scheme to Windows Vista Basic. Click OK and your system should speed up a bit.

If you have Windows XP you might consider disabling Windows Indexing Service. To do this, got to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services and scroll down to Indexing Service. Double click on that then set the startup type to Disabled
