VideoPad video editing software from NCH Software is really good. I was able to download a copy from their site and master a video of my grandaughter with surprising ease and it allows for several audio track overlays which was very helpful in my video. The paid home edition is only $29.99 but I am waiting to see if the version I downloaded has any limitations. So far it doesn't, at least, for my purposes.
Prism file converter from NCH Software will convert your video files from many formats to many formats. I used it to convert the videos I took with my phone to avi files so I could use them in a video compilation I did.
